Elsie and Ben have a whirlwind romance. After 6 months together, they elope. Sadly, 9 days after their wedding, Ben is in a tragic accident.

This book is not my favourite TJR book, but it is incredibly emotional and heartbreaking. We jump between two  timelines as the story interweaves Ben and Elsies love story with Elsie and Susan's (Ben's mom) journey to healing. I thought that this structure was incredibly impactful.

I didn't really connect to Elsie or Ben. I felt like their backstory, though cute, was pretty cheesy and at times Elsie was pretty immature. The scene at the Burger King before the wedding made me cringe. Elsie was acting like a total brat.

In the present, I appreciated how sensitivity this topic was approached. I think that Ana was my favourite character. She was there to support Elsie through everything, even when Elsie treated her like garbage. I liked that Susan and Elsie made such a strong connection and helped each other through the healing process.

I really liked the ending. I actually thought it was quite perfect.

This book made me cry like a baby and all I have to say is wow, it left me speechless. I’ve found it quite hard to write this review and just thinking about this book makes me want to tear up for both happy and heart breaking reasons. It ripped my heart out, stomped on it and then managed to save it and stitch it back together. Throughout the whole book I had no idea how TJR would end it, but she did it perfectly. She managed to capture so many emotions throughout this book and has written it with such care and beauty that I think this book will stick with me for a very very long time. The plot was heart wrenching but bittersweet, the writing was outstanding and the characters were just perfect. This was my first TJR book and now all of the others have instantly gone to the top of my TBR pile without a second thought.

I was completely lost within it and miss it even though I put it down 5 minutes ago. My heart aches for Elsie and I want to find out what happened to her next but I feel beyond proud of her as if she was my real life best friend.

Without a doubt; 5 stars.
