This was a great read. It was recommended to me, having never heard of it before. There were MANY climaxes and times when I thought "This is the end?!" I very much enjoyed it.

Okay, I wasn't sure what to expect getting into this one. It sucked me in immediately and I was so on board through all the weird and crazy. Honestly it felt like reading King at some points (in a good way) but it lost me at the ending. Eh, that was just eh... 3.75

Is Chbosky getting paid by the chapter? Such a great story and genuinely terrifying but sweet Jesus was it long.

OH
Hello, what?

I don't have the words to fully explain how I feel after finishing this. First 300 pages, absolutely fine, better than fine, actually really good. It reads like a love letter to Stephen King, the influences are there for all to see, bits of IT, The Talisman and whiff of Needful Things.

BUT THEN.

Honestly I don't know ... some kind of Christian fable, God v The Devil with rabid deer, a mass scabies outbreak, immaculate conception, LOTS of hissing and LOTS of scratching and tree houses lots of those too. I was ready to give up on a number of occasions but strangely I kept going and I don't feel any better for doing so. I'm sure some people will find some meaning in those last 500 hundred pages but I am not one of them, in fact, I might never read again.

Wow! I don't think I really knew what to expect with this book, and it totally blew me away! What a story! It kind of drug on a bit, which is why I gave it 4 stars. I really enjoyed this creepy book.

I really liked the first half of this book. It was so creepy and I really wanted to know where the story was going, but I'm not sure what happened during the like... last 4th of the book I just kinda stopped caring about the story. I cant even really place my finger on why and then even though the book was so long I found the ending to be so abrupt that it was jarring. I wish the whole book had been as good as the first half. I don't hate it, but the build up was kind of a let down since it just kind of lead nowhere. I'm glad I listened to this one, I definitely would not have been able to finish the book if I was reading it.

Please be advised that this book is 400 pages too long and makes little or no sense. The author took all of the problematic things from every Stephen King epic but left all the heart behind. I defy you to explain what actually happens in this book. On the bright side, the christian imagery is impossible to miss, so you won't feel overwhelmed by that. I just finished this and feel just like I did when I finished the third book in the Passage trilogy. Like I wanted ten hours of my life back.

I hated this book. What an excessively long, pointlessly detailed, waste of time of a read. I didn’t like the characters. I didn’t like the plot. It honestly could have been half as long without losing a single thing. Nothing good to say about it - except that I loved perks and would read that again. Awful.

Started strong but lags halfway through. I skipped to the ending and wasn't surprised.

Don't waste your time on this one.
