Oh... my.... word.

I've been a Busy fan for as long as I can remember. Her honesty. Listen to this one. Hearing HER voice sharing HER stories is worth every second.

She calls out the douchebags and mansplaining while also giving kind human credit to those you might least expect. More than that, this is a memoir about moms and daughters, friendship, family, postpartum, mental health, and so much more.

This book provides lots of insight into navigating the entertainment industry — complete with the misogyny that bleeds throughout every audition and interaction. She is honest about who was a jerk, who mansplained everything, and who refused to have her back when she had theirs.
Chad Michael Murray is probably the only male actor mentioned in the book who has a somewhat of a redemption arc.

Busy Philipps is endearing as she narrates the audiobook. Her teenage years are particularly resonant.  This is a memoir a woman  finding her way and claiming her voice — especially when it was  hard or uncomfortable, and it’s always useful to have more empowering examples like this.  Worth the audiobook listen!

I bought the paperback copy of this book after it was released but it has been sitting on my to-be-read pile ever since. So, one day when I found the audiobook available at my library I decided to give it a go and after listening to this entire book I am so mad at myself for not reading it sooner. Phillips does an excellent job recounting her life, even the darkest parts, with perspective, honesty, and humour. The way that she wrote the essays included in this book (and the way she read them) made this a book that reminded me why I love reading generally and memoirs specifically. The discussions of her relationships, her family, and the Hollywood gossip (it's her life so it's not gossip...maybe snippets?) made this book impossible to put down.
