My full review in all of its glory can be found on my blog!

I don’t know where to start with this book. I'm just all over the place right now and can’t even begin to think about putting my feelings down into these words.

Shadows is told in three different points of view, Dawson, Beth and Daemon (HELL YES). And for someone who thinks that different POV’s can ruin a book unless done properly, I have to say that Jennifer knows how to do it!!!

When reading from Dawson you get all the feelings of confusion, excitement and pure desire to be with this girl, who quickly became the center of his universe!

For Beth it is all about the mysterious yet charming Dawson. Her fears of falling for another guy after her ex cheated on her and her rebellion against her mother who is caring for her ailing uncle.

And Daemon is well just Daemon. Not much to say here, however he will surprise you and that’s all I'll say without giving away super spoilie spoilers!

Like I said before, I'm still left with a heart in a million pieces over here! And I still can’t form coherent sentences. I really loved this book, but like that a surprise considering that Obsidian was in my top 3 for 2011!!! And with Onyx being pushed back to August, this is a WONDERFUL tide over till them. And who knows what Onyx will hold now!!! But don’t worry I'm not going to give anything away!!! But I say if you can’t see it, then it’s not true! Ok really that’s all that I will say!

Haven fallen totally head over heals for Daemon and Katy I was leery about reading about Dawson and Beth because, well I can’t really explain why, it’s one of those things about loving brothers and relationships that they have. You want to give you love to them both and don’t want either to suffer for it. If that makes sense! But I digress!

I have to say that Dawson and Beth are the SWEETIEST couple I have read about in a long time! The world soul mates fit them to a T because they are just made for each other! They love and developing relationship is incredible to read and the world of the Black family is much more developed and complex than in Obsidian.

Dawson is sweet and charming and almost opposite of Daemon, except when pushed to his limits. A perfect counter to the hot tempered Daemon! And his relationship with Dee could be a whole book on it’s one (a longer one JENNIFER!!!)

Beth is another AMAZING heroin of Jennifer’s. She is shy but has a rebellious streak to her that makes her stand out on her own. Beth is a painter (which I so love!) and loves her “little butt” hehe, which is her younger brother! She is so relatable to the reader as a typical girl that could have been any of us in high school!

Through this story, we are only given a taste of who she is.

Throughout this whole book I kept laughing out loud!! Seriously Jennifer out did her self with this one!! And I love it when books do that to me! And of course by the end I was sobbing! I'm still not put back together!!!

There is a lot of romance in this book; more so than Obsidian. There is a taste of action and a LOT of DRAMA!!! You get to know more of the other Luxen that are around and yet not enough at the same time! Oh yea! If you love Obsidian, and anything else that Jennifer writes this is a no brainer to read! I finished it in about 3 hours and I could read it over and over again!

However short this story was, I still went thought the full emotions of my Jennifer books:
1. Fall in love with the hottie!
2. Relate to the girl and fall in love with her when she says something snarky.
3. Swoon all over the place with the first encounter.
4. Resist the urge to crumple up my ereader when they do stupid things!
5. Swoon even harder all over the place with the first kiss
6. Have to take some valium because of the action.
7. Cry uncontrollably at the end!
Photobucket
This is an amazing, yet short, love story that will leave you breathless and crying, sobbing and screaming, laughing and swooning for a long time!

So I finished this one, after reading the first book, and the book in-between (the one from Daemon’s POV). I really wanted to know more about Dawson, and I can say that after reading this book I like him more than I did in the Deamon/Kat books.

Why? Well, he was painted quite negatively. That because he fell in love, he died. There was quite a bit of negativity, and though there was also love, it was mostly negativity that Dawson was so stupid to fall in love with a human, that it was his own fault. It didn’t give me a good image of Dawson, which was a shame. So while I did read this book, I was a bit hesitant about stuff. But as the pages flew by, I noticed that Dawson wasn’t so bad. He was also not all too happy that he fell in love, that he showed his secret to a human, but you can see him slowly change from being less happy + feeling guilty to a man who accepts that he is in love, that he wants to be with this girl, even if she is human, and not Luxen as he is.
Dawson was even great, he was sweet, kind, so unlike his brother Daemon who is quite a jerk (though yes, a hot jerk with a kind heart underneath all the mean barbs). I loved how he tried to help Bethany, how he was there for her when she needed him, I loved that he protected her all the times, he did everything for her, she was his world.

Bethany was also fantastic, thanks to the previous books I had quite a bleh view towards her, but as soon as she was introduced, as soon as we saw her POV I instantly loved her and her character. She was sweet, caring, strong. So different from Katy, who is more spice and flames, while Bethany is more flowers and candy.
Bethany was caring, sweet, and knew how to keep a secret, she was so kind towards Dawson, and it was amazing that she knew who he was and who his brother was. I often see this go wrong in literature, that twins (triplets) get confused, but not in this one. That made me cheer for Bethany and Dawson’s love more than ever.

The romance between these 2? Oh, man. Swoon, swoon everywhere swoon! It is just the most cute, hot (but still clean), sweet romance that I have seen in a long time. Jennifer L. Armentrout sure knows how to write kissing/make out scenes. Wow, wow and triple wow!

The ending? Well, we finally find out a bit more, but I still have so many questions. Are they really dead? Are they really gone gone? Or is there something more going on? I already had my suspicions in the other books, but reading this one? I only have more suspicions towards the DOD and Arum.

I also loved the multiple POVs.

All in all, this was an amazing book and I really enjoyed reading it. I just flew through it. :)

I would highly recommend this book to everyone. Looking for a great science-fiction book? With great and swoon-worthy characters? Great romance? Well be sure to check this one out!

This story is about Daemon and Dee's brother Dawson's story and what happened to him and Beth.

I really liked Dawson but in a totally different way than Daemon. I wasn't sure what to expect from him since they're twins and all. I was actually kind of worried that he'd be too much like Daemon and take away from his character's uniqueness. But they're almost like night and day. Dawson is definitely the sweet and romantic one whereas Daemon is of course our irritable bad boy.

But sweet an romantic suits Dawson -- and of course Beth -- very well. So I really enjoyed reading this. I definitely still love Daemon more though. :) What is it about the tortured bad boys? I don't know. lol

The one thing that kind of was good and bad was that Beth didn't really seem to make a connection with anyone else in the group like Katy did. This made me feel bad that the others didn't open up as much for Beth, but it also made me appreciate the charisma that Katy has that makes the others (albeit reluctantly) soften towards her by then end of Obsidian.

I'd recommend reading this one before Onyx and after Obsidian because it looks like from the synopsis of Onyx that his brother's story might come into play in that one (even though I haven't read it yet) so knowing what happened to him and Beth will probably be helpful.

Even if it's not, it's definitely an enjoyable read if you're wanting a dose of Lux. :) Lots of action and romance and too-sexy-for-their-own-good brothers.

We get a lot of answers and we get Dawson, perfect combo! This novella is between Obsidian and Onyx definitely a story we needed to know Dawson and Bethany's story. Their side is different and has so many answers about the series. The perfect addition to it all. Simply enjoy the ride!

Shadows reminded me of when I used to swing on the swing. I would swing REAL high...then jump. Not because it was exhilarating, or dangerous, but for that NANOSECOND of time, where time would stop, and I would be airborne. It seemed that then, everything was quiet, peaceful ... magical. I just wanted to feel that small second of out-of-this-world experience.
Shadows is a prequel to Obsidian, Lux#1. It was beautiful, and a real treat to read. Though we all know the ending, it still came as a shock.
Dawson knows that he shouldn't fall for Elizabeth Williams, but he can't help it and neither can Bethany Williams. They're romance is sweet and undeniable. Dawson is a LOT of things Daemon isn't. Dawson is expressed as a sweetheart character. He loves his family, but finds he can't choose his family over Bethany.
Now, Bethany is as different from Katy as Daemon is from Dawson.
Bethany's sweet, understanding, and perfect for Dawson and she is totally understanding about Dawson being well...an alien.
We see more, MUCH more, about Daemon's character. He's the eldest among the triplets and is, thus, parental. He shows SO many times about how much he loves his brother and sister, never once giving up on them or letting anyone else say anything about them.
We see how much Dee loves Dawson and Daemon, and how much both of them cherish their sister, even though it's clear that Dee is closer to Dawson.
The thing about the ending is that whether or not Dawson's and Bethany's death doesn't affect you that much, Daemon's reaction after that most definitely does. After I finished the book I understood exactly why Daemon treats Katy the way he does, even though he doesn't want to...even though he wants to cherish her as more than what he's treating her now.
My Confession: I cried.
Daemon made me cry.
The totally bad-ass, no-one-is-better-than-me, oh-so-hot alien made me cry.
So the fact that he was able to move me this much is what makes me want to give Shadows more than Five Stars.
There's one thing that kept running through my mind when I was reading that book: how are Daemon and Dee going to handle Dawson's death?
They were soo close it must have torn their hearts apart and it did.

Es una historia simple y dulce de Dawson y Beth que va a antes de Obsidian. Muy recomendable para los fans de la saga, y con esto ya si que si me puedo despedir de la saga Lux :')

Back in 2020 I found Jennifer and I binged all her books (except this series). I was unable to get the audiobooks through my library or on audible in my zone. So it turns out I can now get some from my library and some through audible plus. Yay.
I fell in love with Jennifer’s earlier books, these style stories. Some of her newer books I have struggled with as they are very heavy going and detailed, but I guess as an author over time you style of writing changes and develops. I am excited to read this series and this was a great start. This whole world is coming back to me even after 3 yrs. This was a nice introduction, nice and short, but ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. I am diving straight into the next book and can’t wait. Spice lvl low, but nice bit of romance and interesting plot. I think this is classed as YA so not expecting explicit spicy scenes.

(4.5 stars) The only reason i'm not giving this book 5 stars is the ending. I loved all the characters (all of them!) the book was funny, entertaining and kept me reading constantly, the only thing i could (and i will) cry about is the ending. I love both of them and look what happens!!! It's not acceptable!! If something amazing doesn't happen in the next book to do with dawson and beth i WILL cry!!!!!

Cool introduction to the series. I've heard a lot about it already, so it was nice to get this glimpse into the Lux side of things before starting the main story. I really liked the way the characters interacted with each other, you could sense their familiarity with each other and their connections seemed strong and relaxed.

Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
