this took a while to read but was very worth it to understand the perspective of a wide variety of trans people across the globe. i can't say any essay particularly hit me emotionally as most were from the perspective of either MTF or FTM people and i'm nonbinary, but equally the labelled category genderqueer/nonbinary has only developed more recently and this book came out in 2008. due to its publication date, there's definitely been changes in how we view being trans and the labels we use, so this was a great resource to see how people conceptualised being trans in the 2000s and how it's changed in some ways and not in others. overall it's so so heartwarming and inspiring that, when trans people are so rarely represented in media, or media representation rarely allows characters to just exist as people and not have their stories hyperfocused on their transness, a book like this exists which shows the trans people included in their full complexed nuanced humanity within the context of love and relationships.
