I've heard many praises for Kingsolver's writing. The Bean Trees was the first available book of hers I saw when I was browsing on Libby. The novel follows the slowness and ordinariness of Taylor's life primarily over a year or so, discussing questions of family and home as well as generosity, sacrifice, and love. I didn't dislike the book and was moved by various moments, but still, The Bean Trees didn't connect with me in a super specific way.

I’ve been meaning to read this for a long time and finally got around to it. I really shouldn’t have put it off so long. It was wonderful. This book filled me with all sorts of emotions and nostalgia.
