This is a great introductory linguistics textbook. I've used it across five different semesters of intro to linguistics. In general, it covers a lot of different topics in a relatively accessible way with a good number of examples of practice problems. It falls short in its coverage of syntax (needlessly oversimplifies and overcomplicates syntactic categories and phrase structure rules) and in being more English-centric than some other introductory textbooks.

This textbook was used for an intro to linguistics class I took in 2018. We mostly used it for the exercises from what I remember. I plan to read through it again someday, when I revisit linguistics.
