i’ve never read a book like this. it felt a lot like magical realism and reminded me of something kafka would’ve written. i really appreciated the cultural component and this really pushed myself past what i usually read. it wasn’t entirely my style, but i appreciated the themes and symbolism. some of it was a lil gruesome to picture at times, but it was a good book overall. great to shake up a traditional read.

The blend of magical realism and medical detail is a bit jarring but this is perfect for readers seeking both literary depth and a touch of the supernatural.

Night Theatre is a powerful fable about the miracles we ask of doctors, and the fine line they negotiate between life and death.

On a night like any other, Doctor Saheb finds himself confronted by three patients (a pregnant mother, father and son) with an unusual and horrifying plea - to fix their fatal wounds before the sun comes up and they are once again forced to endure an agonising death.

This is a musing on life, death, hope, God and the human drive to beg and bribe our way out of situations we can't bare to confront. It is both beautiful and poetic with a protagonist who suffers no fools and is straight forward, open and honest. While Doctor Saheb's bedside manner might leave something to be desired he is a good man who swore an oath to help those who need it and tonight, it is the dead who require his assistance. Gosh, I hope this author continues writing!

While not the greatest piece of literature, Night Theatre leaves you questioning salient topics of corruption, medical care, and the moral and ethics of the right to die.
