I'm sorry but the movie and show are way better. I know it was it was because it was the 2010s and
"not being like other girls" was all the rage but this whole book was just pick me. IMO jace was not nearly as charming in the books as he was in the movie/show. I was not rooting for his and clary's relationship at all and I forgot about the whole weird sibling thing and it was weird how she would still talk about him even though she thought they † were siblings. Overall though I love the nostalgia of them so I will continue reading them.

★★★½. I enjoyed [b:City of Bones|256683|City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)|Cassandra Clare|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1309277410s/256683.jpg|2267189]. As expected from a young adult book, it was light, easy and fun to read. I was not, however, at any time, gripped by the story (and it may just be that I didn't really feel like reading it, but I'd already started, so I didn't put it down). It's not poorly written, but I did feel like the story meandered quite a bit. Having said that, I did still finish the book, and I am interested enough in the characters (especially the protagonist Clarissa Fray - I do like her) that I expect I'll read the remaining books in the trilogy.

Not gonna rant big time
Just a few thingys
Let's start off with the concept of the world the magic and the story chefs kiss lovely even the action scenes were likeable so a 3.8 for that
They were only two things that I did not like
The characters: Clary and Simon were hella annoying and the Shadowhunters were too bitchy Soo nahhh
And WHAT IN SWEET HOME ALABAMA SHIT JUST HAPPENED GOD NO DISGUSTED ME but I searched and spoiled some stuff and know that Jace and Clary are not really siblings but heyyy it was worth knowing because if I didn't I wouldn't have continued

I haven’t reread City of Bones in many many years. It still hits hard, but I’m realizing the first book was NOT my favorite in the series. They get better… they also get much longer.
The incest subplot is NOT great, but knowing that this was originally written as fanfic does make me understand why it is the way it is.
Did I love it? Yes!
Will I reread it again someday? Absolutely!

I read this after watching the first season of the series based off of it, so I already had a lot of knowledge going into it. That said, I thought that the book tells a great story! There were enough things that didn't make the show that I was still constantly interested in what will happen next, and it's always wonderful to get that expansion on characters internal thoughts and motivations and such that a lot of shows gloss over without all the narrative options.
Ready to start the second one and delve deeper into this world!
