Gamache has taken on the role of Commander at the Surete Acadamy. It is the last place that needs cleaned up from the corruption scandal that led to his retirement. Another romping mystery that alternately takes place in the beloved Three Pines and at the Academy. I couldn't put it down... as I find myself fond of all Penny's regular characters, and now equally interested in some new (hopefully repeat) characters in the persons of 4 young cadets.
Looking forward to the next in the series!

I really admire how Louise Penny can continue to come up with story lines that feel fresh and yet in keeping with the Gamache we know and love. This was a great read, as always, and I gave myself a pat on the back for, for once, figuring out part of the mystery (the twist revealed at the very end).

It wasn't difficult to figure out very early on that Amelia was the daughter of the drunk driver who killed Armand's parents. It was just like Armand to try to turn her life around as a way of forgiveness and healing for himself. Also, I loved that Jean-Guy and Annie named their son Honore. I teared up when Jean-Guy called him that in the chapel. And again when you realize/assume that Amelia's dad named her after Armand's mom.
