Story was just okay. About Hope Dunne who fell in love with Finn, a psychopath who initially charmed her but later became a monster.
It started out very nicely but soon became a drag and very repetitive. I skipped a lot of pages to get to the end.
Hope was a tad naive and trusting but I guess one can be blinded by love. The only issue is that by 40 years old, it’s a bit odd to be that naive.
Anyway, this is not Danielle Steel’s best book. I usually enjoy her stories.

I usually take such light read books in between two serious books.
While reading this, most of the times i really got confused whether am i reading the same chapter again and again. Very repetitive adjectives, even sentences. If Steel avoided repetitions she would have had a good short story instead of a tedious novel.
I previously read few Danielle Steel books which i liked for its breeziness. But this one is really terrible. Story, plot, narration everything sucks. I don't know what got into her.

This book was so odd. The first half was so different from the second half of the story and I didn't feel like the transition was all that smooth. It felt like the entire tone of the book changed halfway through. But once the BIG CHANGE occurred, the story sort of spiraled downwards. Everything was so predictable all of a sudden. I guess that's not true. But the first half of the story was so pleasant that things being predictable didn't really matter. But when it got all dark and sneaky then for some reason it became far more transparent.
I guess the important thing is did I enjoy the book or not? Not really. It didn't wow me or anything, which wasn't in my expectation at all. I had picked it up on a whim at a bookstore having a liquidation sale just because there were less stellar choices to be had. On a sleepless night it helped me to while away the hours until I could feel tired enough to put it down. This is the kind of book I read when I want what I like to call Instant Fiction. It's like when you don't have the energy to make mac and cheese from scratch so you eat it out of the box.
I really liked the whole independent woman bit Steel seems to have going in most of her books. However, I don't like that she mostly writes about really rich people with unrealistic lives. That's just so done to death in fiction it's simply annoying now.
What I absolutely HATED about this book was the constant repetition I found in it. It seemed like every occurrence in the story would be repeated in narration in several paragraphs. There also a lot of the author TELLING us things about the characters or situations when I would have liked to be SHOWN. It just seemed a lazy shortcut and sucked out a lot of flavor.
The first Steel book I read was Heartbeat and I remember being really surprised by how much I liked it. I hadn't expected from what I'd heard and thought of Steel as a popular genre author. I think this will be my last book of hers.

As I've said before, I feel the need to keep reading Danielle Steel's books, but they take me a little longer to get through than some of her earlier works. Maybe I read them because it makes me think of my late grandmother who loved her books. The story was a little slow for me in the beginning, probably due to the constant repeating and over explaining details that are so common in Steel's books. Half way through the story though it picked up and I enjoyed the rest of the book. I have to limit myself with how many of her books I read a year or it would get really boring.
