I was fully prepared to adore this book but I did not. I loved learning all the historical facts surrounding libraries throughout time, how libraries benefit the community, and even arson investigations, but there were too many focuses and I started getting anxious to learn about the man who was accused of setting the fire. That's why I listen to true crime and those facts were only peppered throughout.

More than just a beautiful book on the outside (so beautiful!), this book felt magical and whimsical to me, in that books and libraries are just that! I really enjoyed the history laid out, the personal interviews, and the concentration on the library system of one city.

A bit slow-moving, but overall a fascinating and inspiring look at the importance of libraries throughout history and in the present, and how they're continuing to innovate and serve the public of the future, as well.

Definitely thought provoking in terms of how libraries work and their greater use in our communities. If you’re not interested in libraries or are looking for a story...this isn’t it.
