I love Susan Orlean, she has a magical effect to her writing, it is informative, entrancing and painstakingly intricate.

Started out strong, but dragged in places when it left the story of the fire and focused on more general library history. A love letter to the library system interwoven with a diet version of Devil in the White City. 12/1/23 UPDATE: if you’re on the fence about reading this or did read it and wished for something with more heart, check out The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles.
