Very cute, heartwarming but also really sad. The story is told from both the elderly man and his newly adopted cat. Both are clearly in need of some love which makes them purrfect for each other, AND YES I made a cat pun.

This is the book I didn't know I needed in my life, but I'm glad it found its way to me nevertheless. It is simple, light, and cute. It brought a smile to my face and made my day better after reading it in one sitting. Can't get much better than that, right?

The most heartwarming manga ever! I feel like all cat owners (or lovers) should read this, it's totally relatable. I teared up sometimes as it is sad in places, but it's funny too. The relationship between Kanda and Fukumaru is so lovely, and I also enjoyed seeing the few tidbits of backstory for some side characters, and it made me care about them a lot more. I wish I could adopt every cat in existence. 😔

This was such a lovely story! I was crying within the first three pages because I am such a sucker for cat adoption stories.

I also am looking forward to the rest of the books in the series, as this first book set up a lot of questions about our MC’s backstory and friends!

This is not a super “deep” or fast-paced story, thus far, but an easy, short read and very enjoyable all the same.

  • As a cat person, this manga absolutely stole my heart 🥺 Fukumaru is the 'ugly' cat at the shelter, so no one adopts him and he keeps getting left behind in favor of cute kittens ... until one day a man comes in to take him home. We get Fukumaru's perspective and see his thoughts about his new home. The story was SO sweet, I couldn't help but get emotional as it was so heartbreaking to see how long Fukumaru was alone and how he still expects his luck to turn around. He's just so full of gratitude for this new life and still has underlying abandonment issues 💔
  • On the other side, Kanda also seems lonely. He's full of love for his new cat, so I immediately warmed to him. Yet, he also seems to suffer from a great personal loss and is still grieving. This seems like the kind of story where both sides are going to help each other build a happier life!
  • The only thing that was a bit much is Fukumaru's manner of speech. There are a TON of words replaced with 'meow' etc. and it was too corny for me. I can easily see this manga not working for some people, as the specific kind of humor here isn't for everyone.
