I'm so glad Heather got me into Batwoman. And comics in general. I hadn't picked one up since I was a kid, but I love stories in all forms and I didn't realize how complex and beautiful comic books that weren't of Darkwing Duck could be. (Though those Darkwing Duck comics were killer.) Plus, lesbians! Huzzah!

I actually really enjoy the female relationships in this one. The story, however, drags on much longer than it should. The art and the layouts are the stars of this comic.

Kate Kane is a unique hero in a menagerie of Batpeople, top notch.

It would have been better without the constant going back in the past, at different times, with different characters

Still interesting, this volume falters simply due to the oft confusing storytelling. Understandably, the author wanted to give the illusion of flashbacks--storytelling through uncovering the past piece-by-piece, while connecting it to the present. Unfortunately, this falls short. Instead of being seamless it would sometimes take me a moment to realize what story was being told, who was involved, and in what capacity. Other than that, I've no complaints with the plot. We discover the true mastermind behind the villainy in the first volume, and an (expected) betrayal of trust throws a small loop through the story. This volume hovers at a 3.5 for me, but I gave it a 4 since I'm still enamored by the art and bold colors.

Not quite as strong as the previous volume. The focus of the story shifts between a bunch of different characters and time periods, so I could see it getting confusing for some readers. Kate didn't feel like she had as much presence in this book until the very end. But I did enjoy seeing how all these different threads come together and I think the payoff is worth it.

my fav batwoman comic, and my fav comic altogether. the non-linear timeline is fascinating, mainly from the way it works. the tension in this book is incredible because of it, because answers are not given out generously, until the very end. the mystery simply builds, and builds, as it would have for each character involved, until the solution becomes glaringly clear. the most clever story i've read in that regard.

I want to like this series, but I'm just not enjoying it very much. I think Kate has a lot of potential, but I don't like the writing and that makes it tough for me to connect with the story. I particularly didn't like how this volume jumped around so much both time-wise and perspective-wise. It made it difficult to really immerse yourself in the story because you were never in one place for more than a few pages.
I did like the art though!

What I like: Batwoman, Kate Kane, Maggie Sawyer, and all permutations of interactions between them.

What I don't like, or at least not in this book:
SpoilerMedusa and the whole bringing beliefs to life thing?? IDK I don't want to blanket say that I don't like stories about ~the power of myth~, because I do, but I guess... Gotham/Batbooks, to me, are more grounded in reality? Like if the Avenger took on some lady who could bring myths to life, fine, cool. When Batwoman does it I'm just like, what?

Anyway so I'm still into Batwoman but I personally hope this storyline wraps up soon.
