I loved this book! What a joy to watch the characters make their wishes and then work to make them a reality. Clock Island was such a fun premise. And I love that a children’s book series played such a pivotal role in the character development seen throughout this book. I loved seeing the happy endings at the end.

This is a weird book to review. I did eventually enjoy it, but the only reason I could enjoy was because of reality blinders. What I mean by reality blinders is ignoring the things in a piece of media etc that just doesn’t work or makes sense. The biggest problem is the main character of this book. Some spoilers ahead maybe. SHE has reality blinders on in her life. Adopting a kid? With her debt and living situation? After only knowing the kid for a short time? I can definitely see why people have problems with it, and frankly so do I. Eventually, I just sort of let go of the unreality of this world, where dreams come true and the systems in the world we live in can just be pushed through. So I enjoyed the premise and ideas in this book. A lonely author trying to grant wishes like his character? It’s all good stuff. But real life often sucks and punches you in the face. Read this book as escapism fantasy and you can enjoy it. But it is, in some ways, more fantastical than some of the actual fantasy I have read. It is really, just a wish.

Reading this felt like a fairy tale for adults. It was a really immersive and cosy story I just absorbed.
