This is a thriller where as a reader you really can't trust anyone - That's how great the storytelling is. And the thing is you WANT to believe different characters are good, but the seeds of doubt are just brilliantly thread throughout. You see, Sloane and Whit, a senator, have (re)married after their spouses were killed in a tragedy. Sloane needs help with health issues, so Athena is hired to provide home health care. Sloane starts to get worse. She wonders if it really is her illness, or it's something more. The story is told through multiple perspectives which further drives the suspicions and questions you have as a reader. I knew there was a twist coming, but I couldn't figure it. And when it was revealed? Y'all, it's a good one. This one I couldn't put down, and it's a great ride! Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this May 2023 release!

Overall I enjoyed the book a lot. One of my main complaints which is kind of silly we’re the names of the characters in the book. Sloane and Whit sound like soap opera characters from Days. I would have preferred names that were more common. That sounds silly but it just annoyed me while reading. At first I kept think Whit was a woman.

Spoiler
I really thought Sloane had died and I thought “wow that never happens in books” lol. The authors duped me big time. I kept wondering if he was going to get away with it.

The book starts off with you guessing if Whit was involved in Peg’s “suicide” or it was a true story. I liked that opening because it had you questioning from the beginning. Same with Athena. They set up her character in such a way that you didn’t understand who Clint was and if he was sinister or not. So I really did think Athena was out for Sloane from the beginning. But there was a small clue later, when Whit attempted to kiss her and she pulled back. I think that was the first inkling that she wasn’t a bad person after all.

I also enjoyed the sub plot with Rosemary and Mac. I think when Mac died it became clear that there was a huge criminal conspiracy but I what that was you couldn’t be quite clear. After Rosemary ended up in the hospital and that person came after her there it seemed like she would be killed. So when she didn’t and ended up going home I guess that was the first sign that there were police involved.

It was a bit scary and tense, but not surprising. Overall, a solid read that gets you a bit emotional, but it goes exactly as one would expect.

Oh the lies...the twists. The drama... I felt like I was reading a soap opera like Y&R.

there are so many twists and turns that I didn’t see coming, they’ll make your head spin! If you like psychological thrillers with unreliable narrators, you will definitely enjoy this book!
