This book was beautifully written and quite unique. If you are looking for a book to stretch your thinking, look no further. The second-person POV took some getting used to. At times, I found the storyline a little difficult to follow.

Really enjoyed the audiobook! The audiobook reader was really talented, not sure I would've enjoyed it as much just reading it rather than listening to the audiobook. Could totally imagine this being adapted for an animated TV show.

Oppugnant to Rohinton Mistry’s A Fine Balance and probably somewhere between Salman  Rushdie and Douglas Addams, but in a uniquely ghost-world way.
Packed full of political commentary on civil war, governance, human violence and more, this may be fiction but it teaches readers a lot about Sri Lanka, the struggle for independence, and empathy. All while exploring a uniquely wacky world of the dead.

“Do not be afraid of demons; it is the living we should fear. Human horrors trump anything that Hollywood or the afterlife can conjure. Always remember this when you encounter a wild animal or stray spirit. They are not as dangerous as you.” P.335

“This must be where they allocate budgets for torturers, organise pension plans for abductors and approve home loans for assassins” p. 345

“You know why the battle of good vs evil is so one-sided Malin? Because evil is better organised, better equipped and better paid. It is not monsters or demons we should fear. Organised collectives of evil doers who think they are performing the work of the righteous. That is what should make us shudder.” P.345
