…Tam, who was wise enough to know that some battles needed to be fought alone, even if it meant you lost them.
Unlike ‘Kings of the Wyld’, where I didn’t really like any of the characters, I loved everyone in ‘Bloody Rose’. In general, this book is not as lighthearted and full of jokes; it’s more emotional instead. Stakes are higher (and people might actually die this time) and plot progression depends on the characters’ actions – not just sheer dumb luck.
The biggest issue I had, however, was the pacing. I had to force myself to read more than 50 pages a day because Nicholas Eames has a tendency to begin every chapter with exposition even if the previous one ended on an intriguing note. It was a little disappointing to have to read again how something/someone looked after the main cast almost got killed/was hit with a revelation etc.
Concluding, I think the author improved quite a bit and I will probably read book 3 if it ever comes out.
