I love all the books in the Church and Postmodern Series. Scharen's development of fieldwork in theology from an ethnographic perspective helped me think through so very critical issues. I really enjoyed his detailed analysis of the historical ethnographic ideas of Pierre Bourdieu and others. It provided a hermeneutic of social theory that is helpful in our postmodern and postchristendom context. Though some of the structural movement of the book feels episodic rather than an artful development I would still recommend reading it.
