A lot of the reviews said this book was slow and that the writing wasn’t great but that his story was still interesting. I disagree, it definitely drew me in and kept me reading, and I enjoyed his style of writing. He seems like a really lovely person and I think he’s a talented writer. What I will say is there was a lack of acknowledgement that it is also ok to be disabled and not turnout to be a genius like he is. There is a narrative in a lot of the media we receive about disabled, and especially non-speaking people, that it is inspiring and that they are valid only *if* they are as smart or smarter than an able bodied, speaking person and don’t suffer from any type of intellectual disability. People with IDs deserve life and rights too, and we should treat everyone with respect. I think Martin believes this, but he sometimes uses some language that implies otherwise.
