Kilka komentarzy:

The flip side of Ink is Blank, but Spark refers to the spark of war, of revolution. Leora sets out to meet the blanks and, as she lives amongst them, discovers they are no different. Everybody has the sam ehistory, the same stories but from two sides, the losers have death and destruction, the victors passive happy ever after. A brilliant follow up that doesn’t suffer from middle Book syndrome as this world is expanded. I’d love to get my hands on a book of the takes with like for like pages and the illustrations.

What I like about ink is that the concept is very new and it makes you look at religion in a different light. This book continues the story, but is more predictable and has a couple of mistakes. People that stop walking that abruptly stop walking again about 2 sentences later, people switching seats during a ‘scene’ as if they’re playing musical chairs… mistakes like these and the predictability did make me lower the amount of stars I give this book. I did enjoy the story. It’s a nice and easy read for trains and classrooms, because the story is easily followed even with background noises and distractions.

After the events following her father's weighing, Leora is given a task by Mayor Longsight that means she will have to move to Featherstone, the home of the Blanks. Having found out she is half Marked and half Blank, it is believed that she will unify the people and bring them together. Obel, her mentor, pushes her to go, only not for the reason the Mayor wants her to. Whereas Longsight wants her to spy on the Blanks, Obel is encouraging her to find out about her history, who she really is. When she gets to Featherstone, the Blanks are not at all what she thought they'd be like, but years of taught hatred towards them will not be easy to ignore. Unexpected friendships are made, and broken, and nothing is as Leora expects. When war comes, which side will Leora be on?

This book was as good, if not better than, the first. As with the first book, the beginning was a little disjointed and difficult to get into, but you're soon hooked with the pacy storyline and easy to read language. The thing that, although I can look past, does slightly disappoint me with this book is that, although I could probably tell you what the characters' marks look like, there isn't enough description about them for me to be able to fully visualise them. It's not really a major issue, as the characters merely serve the plot, but it's still quite unusual. I understand that Leora didn't have a choice with the path she had to take, but the fact it is mentioned several times she misses inking like crazy and yet she didn't fight to stay and continue inking strikes me a lil bit odd. Could just be me though. Now to wait until April for the last instalment, which I can't wait to read!
