Honestly, the 4-star rating is because mermaid tales aren't my cup of tea. I'm not a fish person. That said:
Silenced isn't your average a Little Mermaid retelling. BUT, Ekaterine Xia does a marvelous job of building a whole new world (so to speak). Her characters are unique, her heroine has agency, and the relationships are refreshing.
My one complaint:
It's too short! The author's style is superb, and it's well worth the $2.99! I just wish there was even more.
That said, Silenced if for those of us who prefer quality over quantity. If you haven't read it yet, you're missing out!

I found it intriguing in the beginning, then it completely lost me in the second half. But then again, retellings very rarely work for me anyway.
