Bella is a red wolf living among the gray wolf pack in Colorado. Devlyn found her as a young teen and brought her to his pack and has longed for her since. Volan the alpha male of the pack also has his eyes on Bella and will not stop at anything to get he as his mater. Bella on the other hand will do anything to avoid him and has run away a few times. She looks for a human male mate and when in the late 1800s Volan kills the human Bella flees the pack for good. Fast forward to present day...when there is a killer loose in Oregon killing human females with red hair Devlyn comes to help Bella...and the passion between them sizzles.

What a fun paranormal novel with potential for a good series. At times I found Bella a bit annoying but I get where she is coming from - she is lonely as she wants a mate and the only one she wants is forbidden. This is my first novel with just werewolves so I am not sure to much about the lore

Synopsis
The sole survivor of her red wolf pack, Bella is rescued by a grey wolf male and adopted into his pack. Unfortunately, she is soon forced to flee when the pack alpha sets his sights on her and becomes a serious threat. Years later, Bella comes face to face with her past and Devlyn, the wolf who saved her, when circumstances bring them together once again.

Review
Starts out really well with an interesting story and characters with sizzling chemistry. Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worse with the addition of several improbable subplots.

Bella is a strong-willed and independent heroine. However, the fact that she has no faith in Devlyn's abilities made me like her less. Devlyn, however, is simply gorgeous and the fact that he is constantly walking around naked in a big plus, lol!

The werewolf mythology has potential, especially with the inclusion of traditional wolf characteristics and behaviors. However, the explanation of their origins is very sketchy and underdeveloped. Moreover, the overly obsessive and sexist nature of the wolves becomes aggravating after a while. Every wolf in the book is determined to "claim" Bella whether she likes it or not, and this is just annoying.

The writing flows smoothly and the dialogue is good but the plot becomes excessively convoluted with too many storylines that are never fully realized. Moreover, the resolution of the serial killer plot is ultimately unsatisfying. The sex scenes also become repetitive and superfluous and add nothing to Bella and Devlyn's relationship.

The secondary characters don't contribute much and even the hints at the next book don't sound that promising - the hero is a red wolf and after they are completely ridiculed in this one, I'm not that certain that I will be continuing.

when I looked at the description of this book and I noticed how many pages it was I was a little ambivalent. And rightly so. The author explain that she had some observation of real life wolves and I knew from there that she was going to use some of that in her book. And that was great at the end during a battle. But the middle just felt like it was never going to end. so the book starts off about a hundred and fifty years ago. I don't understand why the author did that I don't think it was really necessary it felt like a component that just was kind of a bummer. I mean who would want to fall in love with someone and then live a hundred and fifty years without having any other relationship with anyone else that's just unrealistic. Even for a werewolf. And then when they need it just wasn't explosive enough for me. There was sex in here but it wasn't as relevant I didn't feel the passion between the two of them. It felt more like a checklist. then the two wolves get together and try to solve a several mystery murders. I guess the line that they need to solve it because it would expose their existence to humans was legit but it really did remind me of old TV shows where people go and try to solve murders and they're not police or trains for it and they are doing things that are highly dangerous and unnecessary. It really seemed to drag on too. And I'm also kind of curious since there were so many characters in this what characters she will focus on to continue the series. I found that really uncomfortable. Not sure if I should get attached to a character because she's just going to drop it off and not continue with them and then another book. As far as werewolf books or where books or whatever this is an okay book cuz I think she's got a lot of potential but I think she try to make too much out of the book and just lost the whole passion close but no cigar not sure if I really want to read the next book especially if it's the same style.

Oh, dear...
There's so much to say about this book. Unfortunately most isn't good.

I initially liked Bella and wondered where all the negative voices came from. But slowly the whiny little girl came out. "Poor me... Everything bad happens to me. Fate is against me..."

Well a lot of bad thing DID happen to her. A bit too much in my opinion. It made the book too long and it dragged.

I hated the repetitive sex scenes. (I have to admit I sort of skimmed those after the first two or something...) So cutting the unnecessary drama and at least half of the hundreds of sex scenes would have halved this to a more manageable 250+ pages. It would probably still be too long, but I would probably have stretched my self towards a 3 star rating.

In stead, in favor of the enjoyable beginning, I can't give more than 2 stars. There's still potential so I'll give the series a second chance.

I have been provided with a copy of Heart of the Wolf via NetGalley for an impartial review. This is the first book in the Heart of the Wolf series and this was a great way to start off a new series. This is the first book that I have read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last. I just had so much fun getting to enter this new world and meet these new characters. I was just instantly transported to this world and I was sad to turn the last page. This book also includes a bonus novella Night of the Wolf that features some new characters as well as some of the ones you met in Heart of the Wolf. I really enjoyed this novella and I was extremely glad to have another title to read after turning the last page of Heart of the Wolf. I loved getting to go along for the ride with all of these amazing characters. I can’t wait to read more wonderful stories by this author.

Finally finished this one. It had been on the back burner for awhile. I needed to get it off my list. The ending was slightly more exciting than the beginning and middle because of all the wolf fights. But none of it really made all that much sense to me and I didn't really love this one. This is the first in a series and I might give it one more try with another book some time later, but not now. This one almost ended up as a DNF. I think I'll move on to something else.

I was not a fan of the story Heart of the Wolf. Although, I did enjoy the novella that was included at the end of the novel called Night of the Wolf.

I was granted a copy of Heart of the Wolf by Terry Spear from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca through Netgalley for an honest review.

While I'm normally a sucker for paranormal romance this book, while entertaining, just wasn't quite my cup of tea. I love a good slow burn romance, but Heart of the Wolf had me frustrated and wanting Devlyn and Bella to just hurry up and get on with it already. I was very interested and invested in the beginning of the book, but with how slow it was going I almost stopped reading it at one point. I will give Terry Spear more chances because I never dismiss an author over one book that I didn't connect with.

Loved this story. A bit slow in parts, but that was the build needed for the final climax.
