2.0
Likes: the snarky sarcastic banter between the two main characters, the plot premise, the fact that the author, Terry Spear, spent time researching and observing real wolves before writing this novel, and the discussion of zoo benefits and harm to wolves and animals in general.
Dislikes: Too many sexual scenes, little to no character development, and really poor communication between the two main characters about their emotions and feelings for each other.
Confusions: Why are there so few or nearly no female wolves, particularly red wolves?
Why is the prologue set in 1980 and the rest of the novel set 150 years after?
Why don't the two major characters finally figure out how to effectively convey their emotions and feelings for one another?
How come the two main characters do not recognize sooner that they are meant to be together when it is evident to everyone but them?
How did the two major characters travel 150 years without seeing one other while they were so near in terms of location?
Overall, the book was decent, but the dislikes, particularly the more smut than storyline and character development, made it tough to read. I will not continue with this series.
Moderate: Sexual content
Minor: Sexual assault
midknytowl's review
This had some of the most contrived of will they won't they I've ever read. The why they won't didn't hold up, and there's a big difference between a first kiss being interrupted and laying on top of each other naked and nothing happening. Over, and over, and over again. There's also this major murder subplot that's pretending to be the plot plot, and it's not good at all. They finally (FINALLY) sealed the deal and I still had two thirds of the book left and no idea how it could manage to carry on that long. Should have given up on it sooner.
Minor: Sexual assault
I don't know if it's minor or larger, but an attempted rape was very briefly mentioned as an event in a character's past up to the point I DNFed. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a flashback to it or more detailed discussion on it later in the book.
