I recently came across a mention of this novel as an under-appreciated feminist coming of age classic so picked it up and was impressed without quite being as blown away as Rachel Cusk, who wrote the introduction to this edition. Smart and funny.

This book was one of a list from a South African women's magazine of recommended novels. Had to read it also on the recommendation of a fellow traveller. Love this book. Love Jonathan the perverted but adorable boyfriend. Love the character of uptight Roger the brother. Love everything about it. Trapido is a great writer with a gift for humour.

Definitely showed the times in terms of language/jokes, but also seemed to acknowledge them as parody. Was a quick read that flowed easily and I was intrigued by the portrayal of female characters.

Ann Patchett can both write books AND recommend them!
