Really quick read and what a nice comic book to read for my very first comic book! Was thrilled to see a major character from the High Republic Series show up out of the blue and in comic book form, too!

this was a lot of fun! i'm definitely gonna read the next volume and cop the 3rd one when it releases soon. the art was really great, i loved the way they made the lightsabers look fluid while in motion, i don't think there was a battle or anything until about maybe 60% ish in? it was all about setting up the setting of banchii and the characters and vibes. I liked that it alluded to events going on in the high republic setting at the time without depicting them, just a like "if you wanna know more seek it out" kind of thing.

This is the second best thing to come out of the high Republic. After Into the Dark.

Summary:

Lily Tora-Asi is a young Jedi Knight. While she's capable and determined, she hasn't entirely found her footing, so to speak. Her current mission is her first significant endeavor into the great unknown.

She has been sent to help civilians relocate to Banchii. However, the relocation does not go as planned, as there is an unknown danger in their midst. Things are about to escalate quickly – too quickly for Lily Tora-Asi to call for backup.

Review:

Overall, I would say that The Edge of Balance Vol. 1 is a light dive into the world of Star Wars. I wouldn't go into this one expecting an intense or deep plot. That said, if you love stories set within the High Republic, check out this one.

I'll admit that I had trouble connecting to the characters and their stories. Something about it felt hollow like something was missing. Likely this is simply because I am not the target audience/demographic. It happens, and that's okay.

There are some great elements in The Edge of Balance Vol. 1. First, the ties to the larger universe (Hyperspace Disaster, etc.). Second, the series of Jedi/master/padawan relationships. Finally, there's Master Arkoff – a Wookiee Jedi. I loved him and needed to learn more about him.

Highlights:
Star Wars Graphic Novel
Manga
Space Opera

While the story itself does not play a large part in the greater High Republic story, what I liked about this was the added perspective. This manga really showed how different, and expansive the Jedi order can be at this time. To know that a temple can be staffed by as little as 2 fully knighted Jedi, an archivist and 3 padawans is a far cry from what we see in the prequel era.

It's not a bad story, just a little bland.
