Didn’t think I’d read the entire thing, but then I couldn’t stop! Like reading a documentary. So many genes in there - stories about artists you love that will surprise you. Perhaps too long if hip hop isn’t your thing? But delicious if it is!

The writing itself is alright, nothing special, but the narration is very irritating by 80% of the cast and the individual stories are very repetitive in nature. It could have been at least 150 pages shorter. Also, fully half the time (if not more often) that I look up major players on Wikipedia, they have an entire section dedicated to antisemitic remarks and it's exhausting feeling like everyone I'm hearing from hates me. I wouldn't really say to stay away from the book, but I think I'll stick with more engaging documentaries.

This was a phenomenal look at the origins of hip hop told by those who created it. It’s a massive book, but we’ll worth the time it will take to read.
