I feel like this could have been longer. The author built up the suspense well but I feel like it could have used a longer build up to really hit with some impact at the climax. The ending kind of fell flat for me, to be honest.

I loved the premise, I loved picking up the little easter eggs along the way, but it honestly just didn't feel super satisfying for me because it felt a little too rushed. Probably just my tastes in horror/suspenseful novels. I really enjoy the build of tension, and in a novella you can't really build the tension for too long or you run out of space.

Not mad about it, happy I read it, but I just personally didn't find it as gripping as I'd hoped it would be.

While Sylvie had a bad habit of extending poison ivy disguised as olive branches, Miller had a worse habit of accepting them.

After Miller's father died, her estranged mother, Sylvie, began reaching out to try to mend their relationship. Although Miller was initially hesitant, she eventually agrees to a weekend getaway in a cabin with Sylvie -- if only to get her mother off her back about trying to reconnect. Unfortunately, as a storm rages outside, things take a turn for the dark after they reach their destination.

This novella is just under 100 pages, but it packs a punch in that short length. It's relatable to anyone who has a complicated, distant relationship with a family member and the secluded cabin during a snowstorm setting is downright terrifying. Despite being a short read, the tension in this book builds and builds to an eerie and unexpected twist with a satisfying conclusion.

I always struggle rating/reviewing novellas. I actually think this one could have been a longer book, but I also appreciate the pacing. But this author is clearly talented at building suspense and atmosphere, and I enjoyed reading this one!
