Great, short read. The author was really able to build a sense of dread around every corner. A creepy portrayal of a toxic familial relationship. Well done!

This book was a wild ride! I called one of the twists but it didn't even matter because it was so tense and enthralling. It however did not end how I thought it would at all!

It was tough for me personally to get through as someone with a manipulive parent I've had to cut off but made it all the more scary for me.

That being said I saw myself in Miller and honestly can sympathize with just giving into a parent like Sylvie because it's "easier". Made the ending even more devastating for me!

"I wish it had been..."

After her father passes away, Miller and her estranged mother spend the weekend at a cabin to repair their relationship, however, Sylvie sees it as a fun getaway. Soon enough, Miller sees how toxic her mother really is.

At only 86 pages, Caitlin sure knows how to pack an emotional punch! I love how Caitlin explored the abusive mother daughter relationship and turned it into a gut wrenching psychological horror. I felt more and more tense the further I got into the story and feared for Miller's safety. The story is raw and the dialogue feels real. The atmosphere is unsettling, and that ending? Dark af!

I'm glad I started 2023 with this amazing novella. I highly recommend it!

This was definitely an unsettling and creepy read. Overall, I wish it was longer!

This has nothing to do with the book or my rating but I added a new edition so that it had an imagine and the horror genre tag didn’t take for some reason and it really bothers me. I also forgot to add the LGBTQIA+ tag but I don’t want to cluck up the editions by adding more if it doesn’t work.
