This novella was truly amazing. The ending was honestly stomach dropping. I don't often have books that do this to me, but I have a pit in my stomach. This novella was everything I could ask for!

Horrifying and terrifying. Not my specific kind of childhood trauma but could definitely be too much for some folk

Absolutely loved this, and have devoured it in one sitting this morning. I went into it not realising it was a Novella, and honestly I was GUTTED when it finished!

Claustrophobic almost from the off, the tension and anxiety levels don't abate!

I decided to give brawl books another chance and chose This Is Where We Talk Things Out by Caitlin Marceau to jump back in. I finished this book days ago and almost immediately forgot about it. The story is about an unhealthy and unsettling mother-daughter relationship. Miller’s dad has passed away and her rocky past with her mom has kept them from being in each other’s lives. When Sylvie tracks Miller down and asks her on an overnight trip, Miller feels like maybe this can be a fresh start for them. She cautiously agrees. The trip quickly devolves into a nightmare for Miller. This is a very quick read. The number of red flags that Sylvie threw out and Miller promptly ignored was astounding. Sylvie refuses to share the location of where they are staying, but reveals when they arrive that she owns the cabin. So many things made me question if Miller just wanted to die. If you have read Misery by Stephen King, you essentially know this story, but I don’t feel this was as well done. The audiobook narrator does a good job. I was amazed by the depth of the gaslighting and emotional abuse in the relationship. Most of the dynamic between these two pissed me off. I have never advocated harder for a woman to kick her own mother’s ass. I didn’t find this scary, but it did evoke emotion from me. 3/5 stars.
