This was an end of year gift from a few amazing students. Makes me proud for them to know this is the right book for me.
Important stories that tell a side of history we rarely hear. Graphic novels are not my normal genre- I get distracted by the pictures and want more text, which I understand is not the point. Alas…
Loved a few of these stories (Van Camp’s, Nimkii), but others didn’t work for me (the last, apocalyptic one).

A necessary read to get a better understanding about the struggle our white ancestors inflicted on the indigenous and Métis people. And how they fought back (and keep on fighting) to get they rights recognize. I especially appreciate the graphic novel format to illustrate all those events, which made it easier for me to understand, to educate myself.
I think every Canadian politicians should read it to actually be more proactive on an actual reconciliation. And it's valide for any indigenous people as nobody will be free until everybody is.

This is an excellent collection of indigenous Canadian stories. There are some powerful stories and mostly excellent art. The stories are mainly chronological, and I didn't really connect with the ones set in the 1800s, but once they break into the 20th century, there is so much discussed that I never knew. Unfortunately, it seems Canada was just as reluctant as the US to grant rights and agency to indigenous peoples, if not more so.

Stories we should have been taught in school. This is a must-read for all Canadians.
