I enjoyed this book, despite what others said about it being slow or boring compared to the rest of the series. It was a fun beginning to what has become one of my favorite series ever.

I couldn't get my self to like the main character or take her seriously. This got much worse when other female characters got introduced that seemed quite flat and it felt like they were only there to make mc look even more like "not like the other girls". Maybe this gets better in the later books, but I couldn't force myself to keep reading.

I really liked the strong character of Celaena, and I loved that badass descriptions & depictions of her throughout the novel.

This is my first Sarah J. Maas book. It’s so good. A fantasy world where the king of a kingdom is looking to have a competition to see who will be his person “champion”.  Celaena must compete and fight for her life or she will go back to the prison she was in.
