Basically it is the main character complaining about her life, whining about this and that.  She dabbles in heroin, and states she not going to get addicted even though she has a large stash. When the story continues and you meet the next character James, I sighed in relief that I didn't have to listen to her anymore, and then grimaced when she walked back into the story.
If the author wrote 'like' any more times, I would like literally, like throw the book, like right out of the window, and like right into the garbage can. And you would like applaud me or something like that.
Horrible writing style.
And the copy editor, who was probably like stoned or something, like missed a major plot error.
In one section, they are going to go to Reno. James say I'm not old enough to drink.  Maria casually says 'I have heroin.'
They go to Reno and Maria says lets go to the casino and get free drinks.  That's been the plan every time *he's* been to Reno.  Who is he?  James isn't old enough to drink so never did that.  Was it before Maria transitioned?

Sped through the second half of this book in a few hours (which is a real accomplishment for me). Somehow the writing style (which made the book feel like one really long Tumblr post) didn't annoy me, it worked because that's exactly how I imagine Maria would think. I sadly relate to the two main characters in many ways, and getting to see them interact was my favorite part of the book by far. I enjoyed reading Maria yap about the intersections of feminist and queer (mostly trans) theory. The only time when it got tedious was the five page rant about autogynephilia, which I admit was likely a much more prescient issue in 2013, but it did not give me any new information. Very nice read overall.
