As in some of his longer form work, Sean M. Thompson plays in the space where Catholic/Christian belief systems overlap and becomes one with the darker, more mysterious weird fiction tradition. The structure shares some similarities with his novel length story as well, with the action taking place over the course of a few days delineated in a way reminiscent of journal entries. 'Farmington Correctional' is firmly seated in the weird, rather than bizarro, making for a much more straight forward narrative, albeit with a questionably reliable protagonist.
As the title implies, this takes places in a prison, with the narrative revolving predominantly around one (originally) peaceful inmate, a therapist, and a 'doctor'. Owing to its brevity perhaps, the pacing here has much more in common with a short story than a novel. The action comes fast, both in page count and in 'in-story' time.
This was a fantastic, fun, fast read from Planet X Productions, and definitely worth your time.
