While I had high expectations for this book after reading the Fever series I was disappointed while we definitely get sex in this book it is the cliche women time traveler Highlander romance ( with a little bit of a Fairy twist). I did not like the characters they came off as whining and dumb. If I wanted to read a good time traveler highlander romance i would grab [b:Outlander|1160066|Outlander (Outlander, #1)|Diana Gabaldon|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1202099083s/1160066.jpg|2489796]
Overall it was not my taste personally.

I really liked this story and I have high expectations for the rest of the series.

Adrienne was probably my least favourite thing about the story. But Hawk made up for the lacking heroine.

I have a problem with heroines who think they're all that and are desired by all. Adrienne was a little like this for me.
Spoiler And the way she sacrificed her own love and happiness for everyone else in the little Scottish village... Martyrs aren't my cup of tea

I'm not a huge fan of historical romances. Too much old language and old fashioned customs but because this was a time travel story with the the heroine coming from the twentieth century, it was a quite modern.

The character of Adam was brilliant. He was funny and devious and quite handsome ;)
I'm excited to read about him in the other books of the series.

Here are the problems I had:
1. This is first and foremost a romance, so I tried to forget that because I like more than just sex, the need and want for sex, and gorgeous sexy bodies having sex.
2. This is set in 16th century Scotland most of the time, so the accents (being read all by an American man) were eh.
3. When the woman decides to stay in Scotland, she forgets all about her cat!
4. They have unnecessary amounts of sex! That's all their relationship is.
5. Somehow this equates to love.
6. This woman wants to stay in a time period where men are dominant, women are subservient, and families have a fighter/husband and mother/wife. She came from the very late 20th century, where she lived on her own (with the exception of a housekeeper) after being scorned by a beautiful asshole.

With all that being said.. I still enjoyed this I guess. Some scenes were pretty hot, but it gets ridiculous after a while. Adam is fae, so that takes care of the supernatural part. But the love part just isn't realistic in the least. And we wonder why women think happily ever after exists..

It was a breath of fresh air to return to adult reading for a moment. Despite adult content, this was still just fluff but, of course, romance novels are escapism at its best. Beyond the Highland Mist is a paranormal romance involving sweaty highland hunks, time travel, and meddling faeries. So pretty much awesome incarnate.

I'm a fan of KMM's Fever series and this was the first of her romance novels I've read. I checked it out just to kill some time until the last Fever book comes on the 18th and I wasn't disappointed overall. On the one hand, I do love KMM's voice. She has a way of creating characters that are stereotypical but not cheesy and she writes sexual tension like a champ, for sure. On the other hand, however, I think that KMM's talents are much better applied to any genre but romance. Not that romance is bad, just that she can do so much more than write Happily Ever Afters.

This book was good, but I missed the creativity and plot twists that make her Fever series so special.

it was okay. lots of dubious consent or straight up non consent in this, which was not okay.

I thought we would get more lush descriptions of the 16th century Highlands but that was not the vibe at all
