This is the third in the Mayfair witches series that began with The Witching Hour. While that book and it sequel, Lasher, were in the horror genre, Taltos ventures more into the realm of science fiction and fantasy. It was well written as are all of Anne Rice's novels, and I felt compelled to find out what happened to the characters from the earlier books, but I didn't find it as interesting or scary as the earlier books in the series. As in many of Rice's books it explored the thought-provoking themes of nature vs. nurture, free choice, good and evil.

Parts of the book are slow to get through and I wanted more out of the ending

its not as bad as lasher but this book is an abomination. i hate this whole series and have no idea why i wasted so much precious time reading it. hours and hours of my lifespan went into consuming this bullshit. its absolutely foul. the amount of breastfeeding has put me off drinking milk which is my favourite drink. this is literally just weird pro-life analogies, breastfeeding, incest and pedophilia. its not even portrayed as being gross. anne rice you are a sick, sick woman. this was also just incredibly boring. im racist towards taltos. i hate their whole race. every single character who is a taltos in this is so fucking annoying. the witches are too, but the taltos are a whole other level. fuck every single character in this i dont like any of them. i don't even know what's happening half the time as I'm in disbelief because of how flabbergastingly outrageous this series is.
