Continuing the theme of the MacGregors, again.
This time, time for Alan and Shelby.
Alan is a senator, on the fast track to being president. Totally not related, but I'd vote for him if he was running right now.
Anyways, he runs into Shelby Campbell. MacGregors and Campbells do not get along, supposedly, but they seem to be just fine ;)
Shelby is from a political family. Her father was a senator before he was murdered. He was murdered in front of Shelby, and her brother Grant, a reclusive artist.
She doesn't want to fall for Alan but she can't help it. She doesn't have that control.
All in all, a great story, and I love that she's an artist. I love that she gets along so well with Rena (Serena) and that she stood up to Daniel.
Also, McGee ... the butler. <3 Seriously, <3

I enjoyed this book even as a re-read and loved Shelby and Alan. I loved how Shelby was eccentric and how Alan was a serious politician. They fell in love quickly but Shelby struggled with Alan's profession as she had sworn to herself to avoid politicians.
The only issue i found was that the book didn't keep me as hooked the second time reading it. Xxx

The hero's behaviour in this book raises so many red flags I can't recommend this in good conscience (he has no respect whatsoever for the heroine's beoundaries in any way). Even if he didn't act like an absolute ogre, the relationship development goes so fast it's impossible to believe. Wanted to like it because of the political setting, but this belongs in the 80's where it came from, if even there.

Alan MacGregor is on track to one day be President of the United States. Shelby Campbell had a front row seat to the political game when she was a child due to her father's career as a U.S. senator. She was also witness to his assassination. Since then she has vowed to have nothing to do with politics but Alan is very tempting. Alan is tenacious in his pursuit of Shelby, at times a little too willing to dismiss her refusal to pursue a relationship with him. Nora's awesome descriptions of setting is once again on display when she writes a charming date between Alan and Shelby where they walk under the Cherry Blossom trees in D.C. U.S. Senator Alan MacGregor is attending another political evening soirée, thinking it’s just going to be another run-of-the-mill party when he gets a glimpse of a young woman with flaming, curly red hair who is dressed unconventionally and exudes personality. She has an immediate connection with him, too, not recognizing who he is. But once Shelby Campbell becomes aware of his identity, she tries desperately to put on the brakes, despite her undeniable feelings for Alan.
Shelby has really good reasons for wanting to abandon her relationship with Alan before it gets started. However, Alan is equally persistent in his determination for just the opposite. I’ve had my struggles with this series because of the “hands-y” men and thankfully Alan is much better behaved. I really liked his quiet but perceptive nature. But what was even more likable about him was the way he “got” Shelby, who is definitely a free spirit, and refreshingly so.
I really enjoyed this story and how the conflict in the relationship between these two was realistic yet didn’t interfere with their deep affection for each other. I loved how Shelby handled Daniel MacGregor and the long-standing “feud” between the MacGregor and Campbell clans. This was a fun and lovely story.

There were cute moments, but the male lead read as far too overbearing for my taste, while the female lead read like the author tried for quirky but landed in Inconsistent Characterization Land.

When Senator Alan MacGregor, at a staid D.C. political party, sees a woman who is dressed in vibrant colors, he immediately wants to meet her. Shelby Campbell is drawn to the handsome young politician. But, after witnessing her father's death, she is scared to love again. It is up to Alan to try and figure out how to win her heart.
This is definitely an early romance from Roberts but still an enjoyable read. Even then she had the voice that has made her a major force in Romancelandia today.

I had been sucked into the MacGregor world but This book... has almost thrown be back out. Man I could not give a shit about these characters. I was not invested in there lives. I would have DNF’d it but stubbornness made me push through.
Read if You want to know what happens with Alan but I don’t know if it’s critical to the whole MacGregor story.
