Borrowed this from Paige for the flight back from Hong Kong. I'm always down for a novel with a human-ish dog character and Doggo did not disappoint. He reminded me of Freddie de la Hay (another precocious canine) from the Corduroy Mansion series.

This probably goes without saying, but Waiting for Doggo is about a hundred times more entertaining than [b:Waiting for Godot|17716|Waiting for Godot|Samuel Beckett|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327910301s/17716.jpg|2635502], the book that bored me to tears in December.

I didn't so much as read this more listened to it, I got it through Audible. I was not sure if I would digest this having not ever listened to books before, plus I was playing a text based game at the same time. However, I did digest it possibly not as completely as I would have by reading it but I did follow the story and understood it.

I actually enjoyed it, and even when my daughter would come clattering down the stairs so I could hear it I would pause until she had finished making noise. I even had a little tear in my eye at one point. Now I may have missed something, cause the ending left me surprised and in disbelief I was not going to find out who.

Overall a good read which I might consider getting a paperback copy of, to actually read.

Waiting For Doggo by Mark B. Mills isn’t a particularly long book but it’s very entertaining and enjoyable; there’s plenty of humour packed into just over 200 pages. The story focuses on friendships and loyalty, with Daniel’s relationship with Doggo and those he works with being the main focus and which can be enjoyed by anyone, in my opinion, not just dog lovers!

Daniel as a character actually did get on my nerves quite a lot. He comes across as quite annoying and cocky, particularly when
Spoilerhe slept with (and continues to sleep with) his ex girlfriend Clara’s sister. I mean, I know Clara left him but still…
I didn’t find that this helped me warm to him at all. Most of the ‘main characters are actually quite irritating: Clara, Clara’s sister Lucy, and most of the people he works with at the advertising agency.

Regardless of this I really enjoyed the story and found it very humorous. I enjoyed reading about the quite ridiculous happenings at the advertising agency he worked at, and his flourishing relationship with a co-worker. The story is a short but (mostly) sweet ‘rom-com’ (or perhaps more of a ‘lad-lit’?) novel that is easy and fun to read. Recommended!
