Journey's grand adventure

I discovered after reading this book that it was the author's first published work.* I got the feeling while reading that it might be semi-autobiographical in nature as there's a "truth" which surfaces here and there in the telling.

Journey is in a sexless marriage and a group of co-workers talk her into checking out a local swingers' community. With some trepidation, and her husband's consent, she attends a party and she soon finds herself exploring "the lifestyle".

Journey is a likeable narrator. Her trials and triumphs feel real, and I found her archaic "prudish" language to be hilarious when it occasionally surfaced. What could be seen as a controversial/sleazy episode in Journey's life is told with warmth and joy as she "discovers herself" and ultimately strengthens her relationship with her husband.

Four "wildly spasming" stars. Recommended!

*I have since learned this is incorrect

Book Review: The Playground
Author: Phoebe Alexander
FIVE STARS
This is the first book that was written by Phoebe Alexander. It is not my first book that I have read by this author though. With that being said let me just say that I can tell how much Ms. Alexander has adapted and changed her writing over the years and through all of her other stories. This book is not as in depth with the sexual encounters as I have found to be the case in many of her other riviting books.
Ms. Alexander is a master at story telling. Her character development and plot lines are solid and she will really draw you into the story. In this book we meet Journey and we learn that she is a school teacher who is experiencing empty nest syndrome and is feeling unfulfilled in her marriage. Finding out that her husband has some issues of her own comes as quite the shock.
This book is all about self discovery and learning to overcome your own problems as well as adapting and growing in a relationship.
Wonderful story and I can't wait for more from Ms. Alexander.
This book is a stand alone and it is recommended for mature audiences only.

A steamy and entertaining story of a women’s journey in turning the page into a new chapter on her life. Journey (yep cute name) is a newly empty nester with a husband that she is just not connecting with. Sometimes you find help in unusual places. In walks Journey’s fellow teachers at her new school who open her eyes to new lifestyle. The story was unique and clever. Journey is instantly relatable. Story had just the right amount of angst, steam, laughter and emotion that I was hooked from page 1.

This was a great read for people who have been married a long time and are facing the new challenges of an empty nest. I enjoyed seeing issues I'd had experience with put on paper and seeing how Journey dealt with them. I was concerned for a great bit of the book that she wasn't communicating and/or including her husband. But all was resolved in the end.
