I picked this one up cause I wanted to read the book before I watched Sullivan’s Crossing. I knew going in I would enjoy it because I loved the show Virgin River but this was my first read of one of Carr’s books. I enjoyed the highs and lows that both Maggie and Cal go through and getting the dual POV of what each was doing. I’ll definitely keep going in the series because I’m intrigued.

I seem to be addicted to Robyn Carr lately; she's like a comfy blanket. I admired Maggie and loved the romance. I won't deny that Sully is hands down my favorite character thus far. He reminds me so much of Doc Mullins from the VR series. I look forward to book 2.

Robyn Carr is just a plain old good storyteller. You find yourself enmeshed in a story and you just want to keep reading. Maggie finds herself in battle after battle and she can't seem to win, so she goes to her father's place to lick her wounds and figure out what to do next. Her father Sully owns a general store and a nice campground that caters to the hiking community. It also brings all the locals to visit. Cal is a man who is camping until he can hit the trails on his own journey of healing. Maggie and Cal find themselves in a verbal spar once or twice. It lends humor when Maggie tries to figure out what Cal is short for, but they also find a friendship and a bond. So much going on in this story and I was engaged throughout the whole book. Some back stories are a little glossed over but it didn't deter from the overall story. I want to know what happens next so i will be sure to read the next book in the series.

I received a free copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
