Read this book. Do yourself the favor of reading this book.

The prose is delicious. It drips with life and emotion. And the story is incredible on top of that.

This book didn't really hit for me. I didn't feel connected to or invested in the characters. The love story just felt kind of hollow. It was lavishly overdescribed but kind of underdeveloped, at least to me.

At first, the writing came off like two writers trying to outdo each other, dueling thesauruses style. It got better as I went along, but I did find it unnecessarily verbose. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say pretentious. The worldbuilding was hinted at more than fleshed out, but to be fair, I don't think the story needed it. The ending was abrupt but appropriate.

Honestly, it felt like this book might've benefitted from being a little longer, but I wouldn't want it to be. I was skimming towards the end as it was.
