We will be reading this book in the 5th grade class I am student teaching with in the fall! A angering and heart breaking story.
Update! Just finished reading this with my 5th graders! Can’t believe I only have 5 days left with them :( but it was a pretty good book to teach. The lessons could have been more engaging!

My 5th grader was reading this at school, so I thought I'd give it a try too. Such a sad story of the early Native Americans getting massacred and kicked off their land. But it was written well and probably was pretty accurate. It was a quick read and I liked being able to talk with Isaac about it.

Read this one for work - slightly dated but solid historical fiction, and an important story for children to read/learn. O'Dell beautifully expressed the pains of the Nez Perce, and also the bond between women. An important, though devastatingly sad story.

This book meant a lot in my younger years, and marks one of my first encounters with the narrative of colonization from the perspective of the colonized. A great book.
