A pretty funny story that takes Karl Marx's comparisons of the bourgeoise in Das Kapital and runs with it. It's not particularly scary and it ends very abruptly, but there's still some funny and (sadly) still relevant satire on wage slavery and the weaponization of doctors against women.

Online this story is referenced as a vampire horror story, however I read it as part of a sci-fi anthology. I definitely think reading it with a sci-fi mindset/background is better, as there really aren't any contemporary horror elements. The tale is about a young woman who travels to Italy employed by an old woman - however the young woman's health quickly begins to deteriorate. It was a quick and captivating read, albeit not very surprising. I really liked the narration and the setting, even if the main character is extraordinarily bland.

A very short early vampire novel that can hardly be described as terrifying or horror. So it's about on point with the vampire novels of the 19th century.
