SPOILER REVIEW:

First Colleen Hoover book. Figured it was time to see what all the hype was about. I certainly wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did.

Although the writing itself, minus the explicit content, could be considered YA in dialect and style, I didn’t find myself too distracted by it. I was invested in the story, not the writing.

The switching POVs was enjoyable and kept the plot moving at a good pace as it allowed for time gaps between chapters. I also enjoyed the prose inspired chapters. Some might say it was a tad overdone, but I liked it because it got to the *point* of those moment. It told us exactly what we needed to know without buffering it with unnecessary details.

SpoilerThe happy ending was a tad corny, but I wouldn’t have liked a non-happy ending. I just personally didn’t think we had to see the proposal or any of that, it could have been open ended.

Finally, I did like the message of the book
Spoilerthat love is worth the pain.
That part resonated for me and will certainly stick with me.

All in all, I enjoyed my day binge-reading this book. Maybe I will pick up another Hoover book sometime in the future.

I thought it was going to be spicy but it was a lot of trauma, read like a wattpad story.

It started out pretty cringy and read slightly like a bad fanfic but around half way through I found myself a lot more entertained by the book.
Coming from a younger sister, Corbin got on my nerves so much.

(SPOILERS !!)

Okay... so... the first like 70% of this book was... not good. sorry. But so much of it was just sex and the story wasn't progressing at all, we weren't learning anything about Miles' character and I was more interested in the Rachel storyline than the Tate one. I really really hated Miles throughout most of this book. He had no respect for Tate, he was rude asf, and he literally sexual abused her multiple times??? I didn't feel the chemistry between them, their dynamic was fucking strange. Did I cry for an hour straight reading this book? Yes, I did. Did I internally scream when Rachel revealed the name of her daughter? Yes, I did. Loved the ending but I can't get over Miles' character in the beginning bc it was incredibly strange and gross and misogynistic and IK ITS BC HE HAS TRAUMA but I can't get over it - he had no respect for Tate and I constantly felt like he was exploiting her for sex? bc he was. However, I gave it 4.25 stars bc I really liked the ending and Miles getting his closure. Okay.

xoxo, gossip girl.
