This is powerful stuff. Persuasive arguments on a consequential topic. I wish it got more attention generally. If there are substantive arguments that Doherty's wrong, I'd love to be able to consider them. Doherty defies the common view on this question, and if the common view is actually correct, I'd like to know why. If Doherty is as right as he seems, though, widespread consensus imagines a total fiction to be historical truth, with staggering consequences.
