Absolutely stunning. A perfect union of text and images. I'm new to graphic novels (is that what this is considered?), but reading this has helped me realize the enormous potential wrapped up in this medium. Carroll is an expert storyteller, not confined to just one mode but rather using many materials at hand to elicit shock throughout the piece.

“Oh, but you must travel through those woods again and again... said a shadow at the window... and you must be lucky to avoid the wolf every time...

But the wolf... the wolf only needs enough luck to find you once.”

A great collection of short thriller/horror stories for a younger audience. Carroll dares to do what many shy away from: she trusts the visual art and the audience enough to let the imagery do most if not all the talking. That is incredibly impressive and deserves the praise the collection received.

The stories seem so simple but they leave you wondering as to what exactly just happened and what it means. The facts are all there and Carroll often ends on a gutpunch to just drive home her point or subvert the entire narrative that seemed so clear at first.

I am very impressed! Graphic novels are hard to do well and often have too much text. This can be great, such as in the case of the American Gods graphic novels, where the two compliment each other and the visuals manage to mimic the same witty tricks that Gaiman manages to implement in his writing. In short, great collection! Safe to read before bed but do count on some chills and creepy twists.

Enjoyed the illustrations they really enhance the stories. The 1st & 2nd stories started great but fizzled out. The other stories were good, start to finish.

Absolutely incredible book artistically, the art is incredible and I'm definitely interesting in reading more from Carroll purely for that alone.

The stories themselves were good, maybe a bit short and simple, but still a wonderful read.

this woman just keeps amazing me. Five short horror stories that send chills down my spine, but her drawings are so beautiful I can't stop coming back from more.
