This book could have been condensed into a 500 word article. It's padded so heavily by the author, repeating the same phrases over and over. There's hardly a change in the configuration on her part. To make matters worse, it's stuffed full of other people's testimonies about the 5 second rule changing their lives. Two or three is great, motivating even, but 10+ a chapter is when this feels more like scrolling the #5secondrule tag on social media rather than reading a book. A waste of time. I'm only sorry that I didn't listen to my brain sooner. I paid less attention to the book and more time listening to my brain count down, 5-4-3-2-1 Put down this book!

Great concept but the book is too long. It's great if you want a lot of examples but the book could have been a lot shorter. That said, it is still a good book with helpful insights and practical suggestions.

I got more out of this book the second time.

A (largely) poorly written (and formatted!) book based around a pretty solid piece of productivity advice. Even gave a few pieces of good insight outside of the main premise. It was maybe 100 pages longer than it needed to be and while it attempted to tie in actual science, it did it with vague explanations and framing that made each scientific find seem more closely tied to the advice than it actually is. In terms of the actual reading experience, I enjoyed the more personal anecdotes the most.

I've seen her videos on social media and I really enjoyed what she had to say. Her videos have helped with some of my anxieties and also with procrastination. Her book was recommended by a youtuber and for some reason, I decided to check it out.

This is a tough one to rate. I want to give it two stars because she was rambling throughout this book. And I also want to give it a five because reading this book, at this time of my life, when I did in fact need it the most, helped me out a lot. It jumpstarted my batteries which have honestly been depleted. There was nothing new in this book. It could be summed up in 5 seconds. No joke. But it makes sense. And it does work. For a long time I've been waiting to feel like doing certain things. This isn't to say i've done nothing, but i have stood in my own way with a number of things and it has weighed down on me.

Her advice works. And I have renewed hope. So thank you Mel Robbins.

It’s a quite good technique that I started to do daily and it really works. But the book is a little repetitive so I didn’t love it

The 5 Second Rule changed my entire life. It's so simple, but it really helped me launch myself into the changes I needed to make in my life. I left a job I hated, that filled me with dread and led to feeling less-than, and I got a job that fills me with a sense of purpose. My life is completely different, so much better, than it was a year ago. There are still things I struggle with, but this book helped me by giving me this great tool to just take action. Borrowing this book from the library was the best thing I've ever done.
