This book started a little slow, but I ended up really enjoying it!
As a historical fiction reader I always enjoy learning about parts of history in more detail. This book covered the women who were part of the WARDS.

Overall this book had strong historical information and Ibreally liked Daisy and her story. However, I felt that there were some areas that were either unneeded or just not as well formed. Daisy being a horse trainer and one going missing at the beginning made sense, but the book continued to jump back to them looking for it, which seemed unrealistic to what was really going on. I also would have liked more background on the other women in the group.

Thank you Netgalley and Harlequin Publishing for an advanced reader copy for review.

This was the perfect book for Women’s History month!

Pros:

It could be a failure on my part but other books I’ve read from this time period are always focused on the German side of WW2. I loved getting a glimpse into what was happening in the pacific and a real look at Hawaii.

Daisy’s development was a pleasure to see. She went from a loner stuck in survival mode to a strong woman with an amazing group of friends. This is a perfect book for people who enjoy found family as a trope. I also would say this would be the perfect book to show someone they can’t measure their capabilities on others abilities. People have different strengths. Finding yours and trusting them will get you much further than being upset that you can’t do something someone else does easily.

Cons:

I would really like to have more stories about the Rascals and their adventures. Maybe ones brought in at other locations. I’d also love to see what other jobs women took on and how it changed them and the world.

This quick read highlights the Radar Girls, women who were recruited after Pearl Harbor to track planes in the skies around Hiawaii.

I found this book to be very enjoyable. It’s a wonderful story of women doing jobs typically done by a man and doing the job well. There is friendship among the woman that is powerful. There is also love in the story with some of the women’s husbands fighting in the war and new romances being developed by others.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking to read a story about a lessor known area of WWII.
