The prose is different, interesting and magical at times. It is nice to read a book like this about people like me, but in some ways the pain feels too close! This is the first book I read that called me to highlight.

This book was brutally honest, raw and emotional about drug and alcohol addiction. It was hard to read at times, given the content and what the narrator went through. Poetically written and I’m glad it had a happy ending and they are in a better place.

call me old fashioned but a chapter should be longer than 2 pages.

duncan turns a phrase beautifully but ultimately these moments are fleeting because they refuse to let any beat sit longer than a paragraph or two. I hoped the second half of the book might allow the characters more space to breathe, or that we might slow down in the mid-west, but sadly there’s never really enough time to pause and look around at the world eliot is trying to show you.
